Quick Reference

An abortion brought about by deliberate intervention, rather than a natural occurrence. This may be done, especially in some developing countries, by the pregnant woman herself under unhygienic conditions that lead to infection and death of more than half a million women annually. In countries where induced abortion is legal, it has a mortality rate close to zero.
