A sophisticated instrument carried by the MetOp polar-orbiting satellites, able to provide vertical profiles of atmospheric temperature and humidity of unprecedented accuracy. Temperature is measured to an accuracy of 1 K and humidity to within 10 per cent, both with a vertical resolution of 1 km. It also monitors various atmospheric components, such as carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), methane (CH4), and bromine oxide.
