The branch of knowledge concerning the purpose, design, uses, and effects of information systems in organizations. IS is an interdisciplinary study, drawing chiefly from computer science on the technical side and from business/management studies on the organizational side; it may also, however, embrace aspects of economics, psychology and sociology, statistics, and operations research.
