(family Fabaceae, subfamily Caesalpinoideae)
A genus of trees in which the leaves are simple. The flowers are regular with 5 narrow petals. The pod is stout, leathery, and indehiscent, with 1 big seed, which is edible in I. fagifer(Tahitian chestnut). There are 3 species, occurring from Malaya to the Pacific islands.
