Quick Reference

(family Cortinariaceae)

A genus of fungi in which the fruit bodies are small, dull-coloured, and mushroom-shaped, with conical or umbonate caps. This is one of the commonest and largest genera of fungi in the world; however, identification of the species frequently requires microscopic examination of the spores. Most species grow on the ground. Some are very poisonous; none is edible.
