The Institute is one of the major American societies for statisticians. Founded in 1935 at Ann Arbor in Michigan, it currently has about 3 000 members worldwide. The IMS publishes the Annals of Applied Probability, Annals of Probability, Annals of Statistics, Statistical Science and Annals of Applied Statistics. The first three of these titles superseded its initial publication, the Annals of Mathematical Statistics.
