A psychiatric disorder in which a person confined for a long period in a hospital, mental hospital, or prison assumes a dependent role, passively accepts the paternalist approach of those in charge, and often develops symptoms and signs associated with restricted horizons, such as increasing passivity and lack of motivation to cooperate in rehabilitation.
