A strategy advocated in primary care that combines active prophylaxis of conditions, such as respiratory infections, sexually transmitted diseases, and other communicable diseases, with interventions to treat and cure these diseases. An equivalent strategy has been developed for major noncommunicable disorders in the Countrywide Integrated Noncommunicable Disease Intervention (CINDI) project, modeled after the Finnish North Karelia project, now active in more than 20 countries under WHO auspices.
