A digital telephony technology which enables the high-speed transfer of both voice and data across conventional telephone lines. It does this by creating two 64 kbits/s channels for data and voice. ISDN, as it is more commonly known, can offer speeds of around 128 kbits/s. It currently exists in two variants: basic rate interface and the much less common Primary Rate Interface.
