In interpersonal communication, the way in which conversations are unconsciously coordinated to maintain a flow and to minimize unintentional interruptions. Nonverbal cues have been argued to perform this function in face-to-face interactions, though it seems to work fairly well even in the relative cuelessness of telephone conversations.
