Quick Reference

An anti-inflammatory cytokine (NC30, p600) produced by activated T cells, a nonglycosylated protein (132 aa) that down-regulates macrophage activity; inhibits production of IL-6 and other pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNFα, IL-1, and IL-8; and stimulates the production of IL1ra. The gene is located in cluster of genes on human chromosome 5q (see 5q minus syndrome). A chimeric protein composed of IL-13 and a truncated Pseudomonas exotoxin (IL13 PE38QQR) is specifically cytotoxic to cells of Kaposi's sarcoma. There are two forms of the receptor (427 aa and 380 aa) that interact with TRAF3IP1.
