interleukin-22

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

(IL-22)

A cytokine of the IL-10 family (IL-10-related T-cell-derived inducible factor, IL-TIF, 179 aa), produced by activated T cells. Binding to the receptor, which shares a common subunit with the IL-10 receptor, activates the STAT pathway. It has been suggested that IL-22, together with IL-17, mediates crosstalk between the immune system and epithelial cells and is involved in host defence against extracellular pathogens at mucosal sites.
