The official classification system of the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians (WONCA), prepared in collaboration with working groups from WHO and WONCA. This comprises reasons for encounter, diagnostic categories, and interventions (treatments, referrals, etc.). Its complexity is a deterrent to widespread adoption, but where it has been used, it has provided much valuable data for detailed analysis of aspects of the process and outcome of primary medical care. A summary of the classification is available at http://www.adfammed.org/online_resources/ICPC_Wonca_brochure290304.pdf.
