Islamic think tank with global following cofounded in 1981 by Ismail al-Faruqi and Anwar Ibrahim. Located in Herndon, Virginia. Hosts scholars from throughout the Islamic world to work on the “Islamization of knowledge,” an examination of each main academic discipline in light of Islam. Publishes a monograph series and The American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences. Faruqi stressed that Islamization means not the subordination of knowledge to dogmatic principles, but rather testing every truth claim by internal coherence, correspondence with reality, and enhancement of human life and morality.
