Is a manager who works for a multi-national corporation and who develops a career based on global assignments that involve working away from his or her home country. It is often argued that dedicated HR policies are required to recruit, select, and develop international managers. It is also argued, by some, that such managers are beginning to form a distinct, elite group within the management occupation: an international business cadre who dominate senior positions in global enterprises. International managers may possess distinctive competences and may be appointed for their ability to adapt to host-country cultures and their ‘global awareness’ as much as for their technical skills and experience.
