An association founded after the first World Shakespeare Congress in Vancouver in 1971, to further the development of Shakespearian interests and to plan other World Congresses. The Association has organized five Congresses: in Washington, DC (1976), Stratford-upon-Avon (1981), Berlin (1986), Tokyo (1991), and Los Angeles (1996). Occasional papers are published for members and smaller conferences held between the Congresses. The headquarters of the Association is at the Shakespeare Centre, Stratford-upon-Avon.
