Internet Engineering Task Force

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A voluntary organization responsible for the administration of working groups which deal with short-term and operational questions about the functioning of the Internet. These working groups issue reports and recommendations which can be split up into two categories: those which are advice and which organizations connected to the Internet can adopt voluntarily, and those which are sent to the Internet Architecture Board for more formal adoption. While the description above makes the task force seem fairly weak, an organization which did not abide by its decisions would soon have to leave the Internet because of technological incompatibility.
