Describing the area situated or occurring between the proximal surfaces of adjoining teeth. Interproximal attrition can occur due to the wearing away of the proximal surfaces of adjacent teeth associated with age or an abrasive diet. The space between adjacent teeth (the interproximal space) is divided into the region above the contact area (the embrasure) and the septal space below the contact area.
