Quick Reference

Oncogenes first identified as genes activated by integration of mouse mammary tumour virus and causing the development of carcinomas. The nomenclature is therefore misleading: they are simply genes adjacent to insertion sites 1, 2, 3, etc. Int1 (Wnt-1) is a member of the Wnt family; the int2 product is fibroblast growth factor-3; the int3 product is notch4. The int4 gene encodes Wnt-3, int-6 the E-subunit of eukaryotic initiation factor-3 (EIF3).
