Premiered 28 Aug. 1986 at the Ravinia Festival, Illinois, with Tharp, Washington, and Bishton. It is one of Tharp's most popular works, contrasting the power and energy of modern dance with the speed and aerial dexterity of ballet. It has been revived by several companies including American Ballet Theatre (1989), Birmingham Royal Ballet (1999), and the Bolshoi Ballet (2007).
