To supervise during an examination in order to ensure that no cheating takes place and that candidates are supplied with the necessary writing materials. An invigilator will also keep track of time for the candidates, and notify them when the time allowed for the examination has elapsed and they must cease their efforts. They are often also responsible for distributing examination papers and collecting completed scripts.
