involuntary part-time work

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Is part-time work that is undertaken because an individual cannot find a suitable full-time job. There is evidence that the proportion of part-time work that is involuntary is growing and that male part-timers in particular would prefer full-time work. There is also evidence, however, that many women employees would prefer to lengthen their working hours, whilst many male full-timers would like to shorten their working hours. [See working time.]
