A Middle English romance, taken from the French of Huon de Rotelande (c.1190). Of the three English versions the most famous is in 8,890 lines of 12‐line tail‐rhyme stanzas of the mid‐14th cent. possibly from Lancashire. Ipomadon is a prince of Apulia who wins by his exploits (mostly in disguise) the love of La Fière, the disdainful duchess of Calabria.
