(1766–1821), father of Pierre Munro Irving and eldest brother of Washington Irving, contributed light satirical verse to Salmagundi (1807–8). He was a moving spirit, with his brothers and brother-in-law, J.K. Paulding, in the informal literary group known as the “Nine Worthies” or “Lads of Kilkenny” of “Cockloft Hall.”
