Ballet in two acts with choreography by MacMillan, libretto by Gillian Freeman, music by Richard Rodney Bennett, and design by B. Kay. Premiered 30 Apr. 1981 by the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, London, with M. Park/Mary Miller, L. Connor, J. Hosking, D. Rencher, R. MacGibbon, and S. Jefferies. In this ballet based on the life of Isadora Duncan, the title role is divided between a dancer and an actress who speaks a text based on quotations from Duncan's memoirs. It is considered one of MacMillan's less successful full-length ballets and rarely performed, although Deborah MacMillan attempted a revised version for the Royal Ballet in 2009.
