of Pelusium, ascetic. He was probably a teacher in the church of Pelusium before he retired to a nearby monastery. An admirer of the Cappadocian Fathers and of St John Chrysostom, he corresponded with Cyril of Alexandria during the Third Council of Ephesus (431). Over 2,000 items of his correspondence have survived. Feast day in the E., 4 Feb.
