Umbrella political party founded and registered in 1992 in Jordan in preparation for the 1993 elections. Composed largely of members of the Muslim Brotherhood; various mainstream independent Islamist individuals and political groups participated initially (constituting approximately 15 percent of the consultative committee), but most have since resigned. Registration under another name permits the Muslim Brotherhood to continue to receive funding from and maintain ties with political parties outside Jordan. Internal divisions and factionalism have rendered its influence minimal, and it has not performed well in elections. It is opposed to the Jordanian government's participation in the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.
