Swedish dancer, choreographer, and director. He studied at the Royal Swedish Ballet School (1971–81) and the Vaganova School in St Petersburg (1981–2) before joining the Royal Swedish Ballet (1982–3). He was then soloist with London Festival Ballet (1983) becoming principal with Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet (later Birmingham Royal Ballet) from 1985 to 1990, continuing as guest artist with the company until 1994 and making his choreographic debut with the company with Someone (1992). In 1994 he moved to New York where he danced with Tharp among others and between 1999 and 2002 he was artistic director of the Royal Swedish Ballet, creating several works for the company but also bringing in guest contemporary choreographers such as Mathilde Monnier. In 1997 he formed a choreographic partnership with Thomas Caley, called Scentrifug, which specialized in a fusion of dance, visual arts, and film.
