Quick Reference

(JAGDA)

(established 1978)

Established as an organization concerned with the professional needs of the graphic design profession rather than a forum for artistic expression as the Japan Advertising Artists Club (JAAC, 1951–70) had been, JAGDA's early years were marked by some confusion amongst the membership about the benefits that would accrue from participation and, in 1981, the Association was radically restructured, following the election of a new committee. In the same year, the Association published the first issue of its annual, Graphic Design in Japan. A work of high quality with first‐rate production values it did much to grow JAGDA's membership over the following years.

Subjects: Industrial and Commercial Art.
