A compilation in verse of 34 birth-stories (Jātaka) concerning past lives of the Buddha composed by Āryaśūra in the 4th century ce. This version of the birth-stories was very influential in India and is said to have provided inspiration for depictions of the Buddha's previous lives in the murals of the Ajaṇṭā caves and elsewhere. The text survives in Sanskrit and a Tibetan translation.
