“the White Woman of the Genesee,” was captured by Indians from her western Pennsylvania home at the age of 15, and, developing a deep affection for them, married into the Delaware tribe and remained with them for the rest of her life. James E. Seaver's A Narrative of the Life of Mrs. Mary Jemison (1824), although a late example of the accounts of Indian captivities, is one of the most popular.
