(1838–1910). English lawyer and Victorian novelist whose examination of Indian indentured labourers influenced post-abolition politics. The son of a Wesleyan missionary, Jenkins was born in Bangalore, India. He was educated in Canada before moving to Britain in the 1860s and qualifying as a barrister in 1864.
