A popular term of the late 1960s and early 1970s for the amorphous movement of relatively spontaneous groupings, normally fervent, evangelical, and fundamentalist, which emerged in the youth culture of the period, beginning in California. The ‘Jesus people’ distrusted the established Churches; many adopted Pentecostal practices and teaching.
