Quick Reference

A tandem series of four or five homologous nucleotide sequences coding for part of the hypervariable regions of light and heavy chains of mouse or human immunoglobulins; so named because they help join one of the genes for the variable region upstream to one of the genes for the constant region downstream and therefore are an important part of the mechanism generating antibody diversity.
