Soreness of the nipple due to chafing by clothing, commonly experienced by male and female long-distance runners. The condition may be very painful and accompanied by bleeding. It can usually be avoided by applying petroleum jelly to the nipples before running. Treatment may include application of a mild topical steroid (e.g. 1% hydrocortisone) three times daily for a few days.
