Johnson was Printer to the University of Oxford, 1925–46, reforming the design and production of Oxford books during this period, and completing the OED in 1928. In 1968, his ‘Constance Meade Memorial Collection of Ephemeral Printing’ (named after a major benefactor) came to the Bodleian Library, where it was designated the John Johnson Collection of Printed Ephemera.
