English statistician who spent much of his career in the United States. Johnson was a graduate of UCL, gaining his MSc in 1938 and his PhD in 1948. He joined the UCL faculty in 1938 and remained there until 1962, except during the war, when he was seconded to the London Ordnance Board. In 1962 he moved to UNC. He was presented with the Wilks Award of the ASA in 1993 and the Shewhart Medal of the ASQ in 1984.
