Spanish theologian. John Poinsot entered the Dominican Order in 1609, taking the name ‘John of St Thomas’ to express his devotion to the teaching of St Thomas Aquinas. His major works are the Cursus Philosophicus (1631–5) and the Cursus Theologicus, commenting on Aquinas's Summa Theologiae (1637–67). He took into account not only Aquinas's conclusions, but also the arguments by which he reached them.
