A Sino-Japanese term meaning ‘power of concentration’. This refers to a meditator's ability to enter into and maintain a deep trance state for long periods of time. It also sometimes means ‘powers gained through concentration’, and can indicate such attainments as divine vision or other supernatural powers, or the miraculous preservation of one's body for a long time after death.
