A self-educated wheelwright, poet, and antiquarian, born at Tiddington, near Stratford-upon-Avon, who collected (and elaborated) anecdotes about Shakespeare ( see VILLAGES, THE SHAKESPEARE), and concerned himself with the Shakespeare properties. He appears to be responsible for the identification of Mary Arden's House, and assisted Edmond Malone with his investigations into the ‘spiritual testament’ of John Shakespeare.
