Quick Reference

A romantic comedy by R. Brome, produced 1641. The play is remarkable for its sympathetic portrayal of the vagabond life through the character of Springlove, steward of kindly Squire Oldrents, who each spring is seized with a longing to take to the open road. He is joined by Oldrents's own daughters, who run off for a frolic, thus fulfilling a gypsy's prediction that they must become beggars: but all ends happily.
