Quick Reference

An oncogene from avian sarcoma virus 17 the protein product of which, jun (the name comes from the Japanese ‘ju-nana’, meaning 17), dimerizes with fos via a zipper motif to form the transcription factor AP1. The transcriptional activator activity of c-jun (the cellular homologue of viral v-jun) is attenuated and sometimes antagonized by JUNB which is an NFκB-regulated jun-like protein that can also dimerize with fos. See JNKs (Jun kinase).
