Kalitangi was a mythical hero.
Leopard, instead of eating Goat, befriends her. They agree that when they give birth they will eat the children. Leopard gives birth, and they eat the child. But Goat takes a long time to give birth, and Leopard keeps threatening to eat her. Finally, she starts to give birth: she bears a spear, arrows and a bow, gun and ammunition, and at last Kalitangi, who says, “I am Kalitangi. I talk back to Suku [God].” Whenever Leopard attempts to kill Kalitangi to eat him, Kalitangi threatens him with one of the weapons. Eventually, he kills Leopard. Suku in heaven learns of Kalitangi, and he sends for Goat; she does not return to earth. Kalitangi, with other animals, goes to Suku to get his mother. They must bore through a mountain to reach Suku's large village. Now Suku and Kalitangi begin to vie with each other, tricking one another by transforming and defying the other to discover the trick. To get his mother back, Kalitangi must defeat Suku in this risky contest. In the end, Suku has Kalitangi climb a tree. Before he does, Kalitangi asks God to wear his belt. Suku then sends the tree into the sky, but Kalitangi commands his belt to squeeze Suku, who must therefore bring Kalitangi back to earth. With the assistance of a fly, Kalitangi identifies the box in which Suku has hidden his mother, and they go off together.
