An Indian, geostationary meteorological satellite, stationed at 74° E. Originally named MetSat-1, and launched on 12 September 2002, it was renamed Kalpana on 6 February 2003 in honour of Indian-born Kalpana Chawla who died on 1 February 2003 in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
