Cz. composer. Prof. of comp. and orch., Prague Cons., 1923–41. Wrote 2 operas; sym.; sym.‐poems (incl. The Demon 1920); oratorio Resurrection; cantatas; chamber mus.; etc. Died in Ger. concentration camp, after arrest in 1943 for membership of Cz. resistance. While there comp. children's opera 3 Hairs of the Wise Old Man.
