Situated in the high Himālayas (in Uttaranchal, formerly in Uttar Pradesh), one of the twelve Śaiva jyotirliṅga tīrthas, and the site of a modern Kedārneśvara temple. The svayambhū liṅga worshipped there is formed of ice. Four other local shrines, all similarly associated with parts of Śiva's body, are grouped with Kedārnāth to make up the Pañcakedār (‘Five Kedār’) tīrthas. Śaṅkara is said to have died at Kedārnāth.
