American architect best known for his iron buildings in NYC. These included the cast-iron ferry-houses for Fulton Ferry and South Ferry (1864—demolished); the Cary Building, 105 Chambers Street (1856–7), and the boldly modelled A. T. Stewart (later Wanamaker's) Department Store, Broadway (1859–62—demolished). He designed Stewart's Model Town, or Garden City, Long Island, NY (from 1870).
