US astronaut. He was the pilot on the March 2001 flight of the space shuttle Discovery, which transported the second resident crew to the International Space Station. His second flight was as pilot of Discovery in July–August 2005 on the first mission since the Columbia disaster of 2003. He has logged more than 307 hours in space. Kelly was selected as an astronaut in 1996.
