(June–December 1266)

An episode during the second Barons' War when Henry III attacked Kenilworth Castle, refuge of the Montforts and their supporters. The Dictum of Kenilworth (31 October 1266) asserted the king's powers over the barons and offered inducements to peace by allowing them to recover their confiscated lands: the besieged earls finally surrendered in December.
