Sufi of the Chishti tariqah from India who established that order in the West. A talented musician, he came to the United States in 1910, initially as a performer and later as a spritual teacher. He married an American, Ora Ray Baker, and their son, Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan (b. 1916), currently heads the order. The teachings of the Sufi order are eclectic and interfaith, encouraging followers to connect to the universal spirit of guidance.
